Iran executes 3 Kurdish prisoners
Iranian media have said that three Kurdish prisoners were executed by the authorities after years in prison.
The report by Iran’s semi-official ISNA news agency quoted Hussein Ahmadi Niaz, a lawyer representing Ramin Hussein Panahi, as saying reliable sources told him to hang his client.
The semi-official Fars news agency said authorities had executed three “anti-revolutionaries” by hanging, without giving further details.
Amjad Hussein Panahi, Ramin’s brother, also wrote that his brother was among three people hanged in a prison near Tehran. He said the other two were Zaniar Maradi and Lughman Mouradi, who were charged with murder in 2009.
Human rights groups have repeatedly called on Iran to abolish the death penalty.
