The United States on Tuesday praised Paris for its “strong” reaction to imposing sanctions on Iranian interests in France and publicly accusing the Iranian intelligence ministry of plotting an attack on a gathering of Iranian dissidents near Paris in June.
“France is making strong decisions in response to the failed Iranian terrorist attack in Paris,” the National Security Council said in a tweet on Twitter.
“Tehran must know that this blatant behavior will not be tolerated.”
State Department spokeswoman Heather Neuert told reporters that the plan, which revealed Paris details, proves that Iran is “the first sponsor of terrorism in the world.”
The French authorities announced on Tuesday that they foiled an attack planned by the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence against a gathering of Iranian dissidents near Paris in June.
“A long, thorough and detailed investigation of our bodies has made it clear and unambiguous that the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence has been charged with planning the attack against the assembly,” a French diplomatic source told AFP on condition of anonymity.
