Iranian Shelling of Two Areas in Kurdistan Enters Its Third Day
Since the return of PDKI’s Peshmerga Forces to eastern Kurdistan, Iran has resorted to shelling of Kurdistan’s mountainous regions and forest areas, including civilian populated areas. It is a desperate and futile attempt to undermine popular support for the Peshmergas.
The two areas, Sarshaxan and Landi Shexan, are two forest areas linking the two Kurdish cities of Mahabad and Naghadeh.
According to data compiled by Kurdish environmental organizations, during the past six months there have been 630 cases of fire in the forests of Kurdistan.
The majority of these fires are the result of Iranian military aggression against Kurdistan. In some cases, Iran’s intelligence agency, which takes part in the war against PDKI’s Peshmerga Forces, has instigated these fires.
