PDKI Demands the Release of HDP leaders Demirtas and Yuksekda
In a statement issued on November 5, one day after the detention of Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yuksekdag, co-leaders of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), as well a dozen MPs of HDP, PDKI demands their release.
In the statement, Hassan Sharafi, the deputy leader of PDKI, described the detention of the co-leaders and MPs of HDP as a “cause for concern.”
Sharafi added that it “undermines the Parliament as an institution for the resolution of Turkey’s problems” and that such a development “does not serve the interests of [Turkey] or even the interests of the incumbent government.”
PDKI demands the release of the co-leaders and MPs of HDP. PDKI also calls on the Turkish government and HDP to resolve outstanding issues through negotiations.
